Ruben Dario
From Humble Beginnings to Artistic Expression
Ruben Dario was born in Valencia, Venezuela, on March 13, 1987, in a modest hospital that marked the beginning of a life shaped by resilience. Named by his grandmother after her lost love, a renowned doctor, he inherited both her grief and her hope for greatness. Growing up with limited resources and an absent father, he was raised by strong women who instilled in him the belief that education, discipline, and creativity could open a path beyond circumstance.
Art became his refuge early on. At five years old, his grandmother gave him his first painting kit and encouraged him to dream beyond the borders of his neighborhood. While other children drew houses and cars, Ruben painted the face of Tutankhamun, revealing a fascination with history and culture that would follow him throughout his life. He spent countless hours in the public library, absorbing stories, mythologies, and artworks that expanded his understanding of the world.
His Venezuelan heritage, personal struggles, and deep inner life became the foundation of his artistic voice. Influenced by Miró, Dalí, Picasso, and Jesús Soto, Ruben developed a distinctive visual language where lines, colors, and textures form emotional and spiritual dialogues. Geometry, movement, and narrative weave together to express his lived experiences and the transformative power of art.
From a childhood marked by scarcity, Ruben grew into an artist committed to giving back. Through his foundation, Creating Light in the Darkness, he supports children in Venezuela and offers the same spark of hope that once guided him. His work continues to explore themes of love, identity, transitions, and renewal. Each piece carries the imprint of his journey, shaped by memory, resilience, and purpose, and created to uplift others while expressing his own evolving vision.
